Jazz Artist of the Week
Lester Young - "The Prez"
Lester Young became well known as a member of Count Basie's band out of Kansas City from 1933-1940. Known for his relaxed, laid back style, he was one of the most influential players on his instrument. After leaving the Count Basie Orchestra, he recorded with Billie Holiday in the early 1940's until he was drafted into the army. After the war he continued to record until his untimely death in 1959.
